Equivocal other, neither protagonist nor antagonist – a neuteragonist.

On a large social scale, we are witnessing a wide array of ghosting phenomena – from evaporated value (financial crisis) to phantom of hegemony, as presented by the rolling revolutions of middle east, crashing public power against the will of the institution and reducing later into the ghost. Removal of attributes or breaking up of the referential cord is the first move of ghosting. Transparency is its aesthetics and dérive is its choreography – as delivered in classical format – although there are many more ghostographic solutions; which we are fortunate enough to explore in the context of this seminar.

Ranging from practical to paradoxical, from anthropomorphic to abstract, ghost is a conglomeration of intangible and haunts in balance as an embodiment of inactive action or pure presence, distillable into a spirit upon “higher orders” or congealable into a zombie, a monster or a fake; it is however neither of the above.  An abundance of referential material at every corner of life, be it within religious or metaphysical discourse, or as a part of the popular culture (Japanese horror, Hollywood romantic phantasies a.k.a “Ghost”, techno-dystopia, “The Twilight Zone” and other paranormal types of narrative and etc.) will serve as a good starting point for a successful engagement with the subject.

Structured as a combination of supportive strategies: lectures, reviews, presentations, on-site explorations and etc., this class is primarily intended to facilitate creative process resulting in either film, animation or interactive, or performative projects among many other possible formats.
